A good Mains answer is not long – it is clear, structured and relevant. Use these practical tips to improve your writing in a few weeks.

The answer structure

  1. Introduction (2–3 lines): define the term or state the context.
  2. Body (3–5 points): use short paragraphs or bullet points with headings.
  3. Conclusion (2 lines): give a balanced way forward.

Practice routine

  • Write one timed answer every day for the first month.
  • Increase to two or three answers a day before the exam.
  • Compare each answer with a good source and add missing points.

How to add value

  • Examples: mention Bihar schemes, places or events when relevant.
  • Data: use one or two recent facts instead of many numbers.
  • Diagrams: simple flowcharts help in processes and comparisons.

Common mistakes

  • Writing everything you know instead of what is asked.
  • Ignoring word limits and time.
  • Poor handwriting and no paragraph breaks.

Language papers

Practise essay and letter writing, grammar and précis regularly. Our Hindi notes help with grammar basics.
