How to Start BPSC Preparation from Scratch: A 6-Month Plan
Table of Contents
Starting BPSC preparation feels confusing because the syllabus is wide and every aspirant gives different advice. The good news is that a simple, repeatable plan works. This six-month roadmap is built for beginners who can study three to five hours a day.
Step 1: Understand the exam first
Before you open any book, read the latest official notification. Note the stages, subjects and marking scheme. Then read our guides on the Prelims and Mains stages so that you know what you are preparing for.
Month 1: Build the base
- Finish NCERT basics for history, geography, polity and science.
- Start a daily newspaper habit and a one-page current affairs notebook.
- Read Bihar at a glance.
Month 2: Core subjects
- Study polity and modern history from standard books – see best books for BPSC.
- Add maths and reasoning practice for 45 minutes every day.
Month 3: Bihar special and economy
- Cover ancient Bihar, culture, geography and the state economy.
- Attempt a weekly quiz and track your score.
Month 4: Previous year papers
Solve PYQs subject by subject. Note topics that repeat and mark them for double revision.
Month 5: Mock tests and writing
- Take full-length mock tests every week and analyse mistakes.
- Start answer writing – even one answer a day builds speed for the Mains.
Month 6: Revision and polishing
Revise your short notes twice, repeat the weakest quizzes and take at least three full mocks under exam conditions. Do not start new books now.
Daily timetable (example)
- 1 hour – new topic from notes
- 1 hour – maths/reasoning practice
- 45 minutes – current affairs
- 45 minutes – revision of yesterday
- 30 minutes – quiz or PYQ
